About Me

I keep six honest serving-men:
(They taught me all I knew)
Their names are What and Where and When
And How and Why and Who.

From "The Elephant's Child" by Rudyard Kipling

What is the purpose of “Becky’s Book Reviews”

To promote the love of reading by providing teens, tweens, parents, teachers, librarians, fellow bloggers, and book lovers of all ages, with reviews of books published for children, young adults, and adults.

Where can you find my reviews?

Here at Becky's Book Reviews, I review young adult and adult books. (Also quite a few classics.) But also at Operation Actually Read Bible where I review Christian fiction, Christian nonfiction, and Bibles. But also at Young Readers where I review books for toddlers through middle schoolers.

I started Becky's Book Reviews in 2006. Young Readers in 2007. And Operation Actually Read Bible in 2008.

Where do my books come from?

I receive review copies from some publishers. Some of the books are physical review copies.  (Though in 2020 with COVID that has slowed down to barely anything. Which I am surprisingly okay with. I don't miss the accumulation of physical books.) Some of the review copies are digital e-galleys.

I also get books from my local library.

And then there are books that I've bought or received as gifts.

I do indicate within the review--at the top--the source for where each book came from.

When is the site updated? (How often is the site updated?)

I am committed to posting five to six times a week. (Though often I post daily). I post when I have book reviews to share. Usually that is two to three times a week. Remember that I have three blogs. It is impossible for me to post five book reviews per blog per week! That would be about fifteen books to complete each and every week. It's impossible and unsustainable. So between the three blogs, I might post five to six reviews.

How do I choose what to review?

I review every book that I finish. (I am not promising to finish every book I start!) As to what I choose to read at any given time, well, that is subjective. Excepting the few commitments I make for blog tours, I decide what to read and when to read it.

I LOVE choosing what to review. For the past year I've relied heavily on NETGALLEY. I like requesting books that I am particularly interested in.

Why did I create Becky's Book Reviews? Why do I feel compelled to blog?

I love to read. I love to write. I love to discuss. I love helping readers connect with books. I want to help promote reading. I want to introduce books and authors to readers. The site helps me do this. It is also immensely satisfying to blog. It helps me keep track of what I read. It helps me connect with a community of readers.

Who is Becky of Becky’s Book Reviews?

I am a reader, first and foremost. I am a reader who happens to have a background in English literature and library science. I have a BA and MA in English literature from Texas Woman’s University. I have a MLS degree from Texas Woman’s University. My specialization is children’s and young adult literature. This is my calling in life to promote the love of reading, the love of books, to connect books with readers, to encourage lifelong reading habits.
