Century of Viewing #46
1940s
- 1947 The Bishop's Wife. I have tried so many times to like this one. I should like this one. I just don't love this one. I love Cary Grant--usually. But this one is just weird. I don't like the angel and the wife being all flirty-flirt-flirt.
1950s
- 1955 King Dinosaur. Sometimes the ending of a movie can spoil how you feel about a movie. It was SILLY. I don't know if it was meant to be silly. It was over-the-top. I don't know that it was meant to be. Maybe it was. Maybe the characters were meant to be ridiculous and make all the wrong decisions. If they were, it's a sci-fi comedy that is weird, quirky, silly. So four "astronauts" two men, two women travel to a new planet, Nova, that has just appeared in our solar system. They travel--weeks? months?--to explore it. But the camping trip doesn't go as planned when they encounter "fierce" animals.
1960s
- 1960 Dinosaurus. Is this the best dinosaur movie ever? Define best. It is FUN. It is awesomely fun. It is FUNNY. It has some slapstick. I really loved this one so much.
- 1960 The Time Machine. THIS MOVIE IS ALL KINDS OF AWESOME. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie. It is great fun!
1970s
- 1973 Soylent Green. This is a dark dystopian set in the year 2022. Definitely worth watching once, but not a favorite.
- 1978 The Cat From Outer Space. A CAT FROM OUTER SPACE with a magical collar. I love the story, the characters, the plot. It is FUN, FUN, FUN. Highly recommended.
1980s
- 1987 Claymation Christmas. LOVE this special so much. Musical acts with two dinosaur hosts.
2000s
- 2001 Kate and Leopold. Fun time travel rom-com. Hugh Jackman. Meg Ryan. And a fun set of side characters. I enjoyed this one. This is the second time I've seen it this year.
2010s
- 2013 Free Birds. My expectations were super low....but I greatly enjoyed this one. I think there were some great voice actors that made this one all that much more awesome. Two turkeys travel back in TIME to the first Thanksgiving to prevent turkeys from being on the menu in the first place.
2020s
- 2023 Wonka. I love, love, love this musical. I do. I have seen it many times. It is a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
