Century of Viewing #47
1940s
- 1940 Rebecca. An adaptation of the book, Rebecca. It was well done. But the story is a little too creepy for me to love and adore.
- 1942 Eyes in the Night. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this surprise of a movie. A blind detective helps out an old friend--a young woman with husband and a stepdaughter--and becomes quite involved in a MURDER MYSTERY and uncovering a ring of Nazi agents or sympathizers. THERE'S A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL DOG.
- 1942. Holiday Inn. One of my most favorite musicals AND one of my favorite holiday films. Definitely love this Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire movie. Highly recommended.
- 1946 Without Reservations. PERFECTLY charming John Wayne movie. Claudette Colbert plays a writer whose bestselling book is about to be adapted to film. By chance she meets John Wayne's character and decides on him to be her leading man. She is quite smitten. But can these two find a way to be together?
1950s
- 1955 Good Morning Miss Dove. Miss Dove is a teacher who has spent decades of her life dedicated and devoted to her students. When she has a health crisis the whole community comes together to show their respect, love, and appreciation.
1960s
- 1960 Angry Red Planet. "Astronauts" travel to Mars where they encounter unfriendly, dare I say, ANGRY alien lifeforms with a message to Earth. It was mildly enjoyable, perfectly mediocre.
1980s
- 1983 Space Raiders. A surprising amount of HEART in this one. A young boy stowaways on a ship that is being stolen, he becomes their responsibility...and bonds are formed with these space pirates of sorts. But will he find his way home again? Also contains a lot of rock-blasting just because. Enjoyable for what it is.
- 1987 Nightflyers. Mist. Hairspray. Shoulder pads. Synthesizer. Words that come to mind when thinking about this 1980s sci-fi adventure. ANGRY ship, helpless passengers.
2020s
- 2025 Merry Little Ex-Mas, Out of all the movies I've watched recently--or even this year--this one made me want my time back. I can think of one or two others as well. This holiday rom-com is NOT worth your time. Very few if any likeable characters. Obnoxious story.
