Singalong Saturday (Outside)

Today's prompt: Favorite Song Outside Your 'Usual' Taste

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

This was tough because my 'usual' taste--depending on my mood probably covers a lot. I don't just have one or two genres as my comfort zone.

But I think I'll go with the soundtrack to HOME.

Sing Along Saturday (Cook Me Up Something)

Today's prompt: Song You Listen To While You Cook

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I actually really LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the album Tuscany -- A Romantic Journey. I bought it for $1 at my local charity shop that benefits Habitat for Humanity.

And now just because I can, and because it's funny...Sing Verdi Very Loud (Live)

Sing Along Saturday (Rock the Song)

Today's prompt: Song that makes you rock and roll

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

This week I'm going to go with GOOD CHARLOTTE, a group I love and adore. I could be tempted to share two or three or four of my favorites. But I'll go with Girls & Boys.

And I couldn't resist....I tried....The Anthem.

Singalong Saturdays (Corny Songs)

Today's prompt: A corny song.

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

So. I've been obsessively listening to Sonny James this past week. If you were like me, you might be Sonny Who?!?!?! I had never heard of Sonny James until I came across a quote of his in a Johnny Cash biography. I liked the quote so much that I wanted to find out more about the guy who said it.

Here is what I would call a NOVELTY song, but, this week's theme is corny and I'm going to go for it.

Hey Little Ducky

Now I'm also going to include one more song because I just can't help myself. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. Is it corny? Or is it just catchy? I don't know right now it's my again-again song.

Singalong Saturdays (Summer Songs, Again)

Today's prompt: Songs that remind you of summer. I'm adapting it a bit to focus on songs that remind me of a particular summer--1997.

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I'm choosing to focus on the Backstreet Boys. I remember going shopping for school clothes and getting a sampler of their music--maybe even on cassette--from a department store. It was love at first listen. And when their album released that August, I believe, I bought it.

Hearing any of these songs brings back that summer and COLLEGE.

Also I can't help including Sugar Ray's Fly.

Singalong Saturdays (Drinking Songs)

Today's prompt: Favorite Drinking Songs

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I thought I would connect this post in with my current George Strait Project. For those that haven't noticed, I am listening to George Strait's albums chronologically this July. I only have four albums left, which will either be one long post, or two smaller posts.

I thought I would choose one 'drinking song' from his first album, Strait Country (1981), and one 'drinking song' from his last album, Cold Beer Conversation (2015).

I could go with "Unwound" or "Blame It On Mexico." But I think I will go with the much lesser known gem of Friday Night Fever.

I have several options from Cold Beer Conversation: "Cold Beer Conversation," "Stop and Drink," "Wish You Well," or "Cheaper Than A Shrink." But I think I'll go with Goin' Goin' Gone.

Singalong Saturdays: Songs That Make You Cry

Today's prompt: Songs that Move You (Emotionally)

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I have to be in the right mood to want to listen to a song that I know is going to bring me to tears or close to tears. But occasionally, I'm in that place and these are some of my favorites:

So let's start off with Collin Raye's Love Me. There are no words to say really...

This one may be completely unoriginal, at least for those that have listened to country music at any point in the past twenty years, but, it still gets to me.

And last but not least, Mark Wills' Don't Laugh At Me

Sing Along Saturdays (Celebrating America)

Today's prompt: songs you listen to celebrate Independence Day

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I'm stretching this one quite a bit perhaps. To me it doesn't get more American than COUNTRY. And I do tend to go through my country phase in the summer. I was raised on country music and Christian music simultaneously for the most part.

So my first choice is Brad Paisley's This is Country Music:

I've got to include some Alabama. Here's If You're Gonna Play In Texas: (It's a song I say AMEN, AMEN to for sure!)

Here's better audio of it.

I can't imagine not including a George Strait. Because to *me* it doesn't get countrier than George Strait.

Sing Along Saturdays (Summer Theme Song)

Today's prompt: what song will you be blasting nonstop over the summer?

This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I really don't listen to contemporary music at all...well not much. And I think that's what this prompt is about...since the theme summer songs was just a few weeks ago. But one thing I have had essentially on repeat this summer is HAMILTON.

I will share two songs that go back-to-back in this musical. The first is "Helpless" and the second is "Satisfied."

For those that haven't heard of Hamilton, it is a musical about the life of founding father, Alexander Hamilton.
Well, I was just going to keep it to those two songs...but I'm also tempted to include at least one of King George's songs. (He sings three.) They're just so fun!!!

Sing Along Saturdays (For Dad)

Today's prompt: songs you jam to with your dad
This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

My first selection is David Bowie's Golden Years. One of Dad's favorite soundtracks is A Knight's Tale. This is my absolute favorite song from that soundtrack. And it was my first introduction to David Bowie. It is probably my favorite song of his--although I like quite a few!

My second selection is Sweet Home Alabama. I don't remember a time when I didn't know this song. It's one of my Dad's favorite songs to play on the guitar.

Sing Along Saturdays (Beach Music)

Today's prompt: Beach Music
This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

I was actually hoping to get a chance to share one of my favorite songs. I even had a draft of "favorite one-hit-wonders" in the works.
It wasn't until I published the post that I realized all of these songs are from before my parents were even married!
My number one choice: BEACH BABY by First Class

And a full-length version of Beach Baby! I had not realized the live version cut off MY FAVORITE PART.

And because it's hard not to think of others that qualify....

David Cassidy (Partridge Family) Some Kind of a Summer

Beach Boys' Don't Worry Baby!

Sing Along Saturdays

Today's prompt: What song would you like turned into a book?
This meme is hosted by Bookish Things & More.

The Reason by Hoobastank. I love this song like crazy. I'm not sure if I loved, loved, loved it before he started getting heavy use in fan videos for various tv shows and movies. But that certainly helped me appreciate it all the more.

One of the fan videos I'm talking about is for Alias. DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. But it turns the lyrics into being about father/daughter. Syndey and Jack. (I can't begin to tell you how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jack's character. I think the main reason the show resonates with me is because of him!)

Sing Along Saturdays (Book & Music Pairings)

I do not participate in memes often, but, this one caught my attention today.
It is hosted by Bookish Things & More

I thought I would use my recently reviewed, recently read, and currently reading as inspiration for this topic.

Unforgettable by Nat King Cole (and Natalie Cole) goes well with Persuasion by Jane Austen
You Don't Know Me by Ray Charles goes nicely with Anne of the Island.
Flame goes with What Are the Summer Olympics? by Gail Herman
He's A Pirate is fun with How To Be A Pirate by Sue Fliess.
Aslan by Kendall Payne goes PERFECTLY with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair,  or any of the Narnia books.
The Havens Grey by Andrew Peterson goes along nicely with my rereading of The Lord of the Rings.
The Jolly Green Giant by The Royal Guardsmen might pair nicely with Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food. (What I love about this one isn't the "story" of the song--the Jolly Green Giant's quest for love--but ALL the vegetable naming going on in the background. Especially the way they mispronounce asparagus.)

Sing Along Saturday (Love Songs)

I do not participate in memes often, but, this one caught my attention today.
It is hosted by Bookish Things & More
The theme this week is songs that celebrate love.

Still the One ~ Orleans

I love and adore Orleans. I really, really do. I also love Dance With Me. You should give both a listen!

Can't Take My Eyes Off You ~ Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

There aren't enough "loves" to cover how giddy this one makes me! I'll save you some time. The link to the scene from 10 Things I Hate About You.

I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song ~ Jim Croce

I love Jim Croce's music very much. This is one of my favorites. I also love Time in a Bottle.
