VOYA has published two great lists this past month (April) that highlight the best books of 2006. The first is Best Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror of 2006. The second is Pure Poetry: VOYA's Poetry Picks for 2006. Both articles/bibliographies are in pdf format.
Best Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror--this is the 22nd annual list of VOYA's top-rated science fiction, fantasy, and horror titles. The books are limited to titles with the coveted 5P or 5Q rating. Several titles appearing on the list which I've read and/or reviewed are Peter and the Shadow Thieves (5Q, 5P), London Calling (5Q, 4P), Gossamer (5Q, 4P), New Moon (4Q, 5P), Here There Be Dragons (5Q, 4P), and Specials (4Q, 5P).
Pure Poetry--the 9th annual list of poetry titles...that have earned top ratings between June 2006 and April 2007. Apparently, the titles on this list do not have to meet the 5P or 5Q rating. I'm less familiar with the titles on this list. The only ones I'm familiar with are The Braid by Helen Frost (4Q, 4P) and I Don't Want to Be Crazy by Samantha Schutz (3Q, 4P).
