Amazing Grace. Mary Hoffman. Illustrated by Caroline Binch. 1991. 32 pages. [Source: Library]
First sentence: Grace was a girl who loved stories. She didn't mind if they were read to her or told to her or made up in her own head.
Premise/plot: Grace, the heroine, loves stories. She loves acting out stories. She does it all the time. So when her class performs Peter Pan, she knows exactly what part she wants--that of Peter Pan. Her classmates, at first, tell her she can't be Peter Pan. She's a girl. She's black. She just doesn't look the part. But Grace knows different. She's been raised to believe that she can be anything she wants. She proves that she can be an amazing Peter Pan.
My thoughts: I liked this one very much. I think Grace is adorable. The kind of girl you'd really love to be friends with in real life.
