Harriet the Invincible

Harriet the Invincible. Ursula Vernon. 2015. 250 pages. [Source: Library]

First sentence: Once upon a time, in a distant land, there was a beautiful princess named Harriet Hamsterbone, who, as her name indicated, was a hamster. she was brave and intelligent and excelled in traditional hamster skills, like checkers and fractions.

Premise/plot: When Harriet was born her parents forgot to invite the evil fairy god-mouse Ratshade which resulted in a curse--a sleeping curse via enchanted hamster wheel on her twelfth birthday. When Harriet is old enough to learn of it, she rejoices in the fact that she is invincible for a few more years yet. She leaves the safety of her home and packs each day with wild, crazy, dangerous adventures. But her twelfth birthday is approaching...

My thoughts: I really loved, loved, loved this one. I loved Harriet and I came to enjoy her friendship with Prince Wilbur. This chapter book features illustrations, speech bubbles, and traditional text packed with adventure and humor!
