East of Eden is my favourite Steinbeck and The Forsyth Saga is wonderful....but very long. The TV series with Rupert Graves is worth seeking out too.

I love what books of Gaskell's I have read, but I had not heard of that one. I had mixed emotions about Peace Like a River but I did think Enger was a great storyteller. I have a George Eliot book on my list, too. Have fun with your list this year!
