R.I.P. IV (The POOL)
So Carl has announced this year's R.I.P. challenge. It's in its fourth year. For those not in the know, it stands for Readers Imbibing Peril. What kinds of books are included in this challenge: mystery, suspense, thriller, dark fantasy, gothic, horror, supernatural. Reviews will be collected on the review challenge blog. September 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009.
I'll be participating in Peril the First which asks readers to commit to reading four books. I'll probably be reading more than four books. Carl doesn't require us to make a list of definite titles, but does encourage participants to list a pool of books that they'll be considering reading. My "pool" ended when I got exhausted. I've probably got a couple of dozen more books boxed up that fit the challenge.

LOTS of good books there. Night Runner is an excellent vampire book and was a big hit here in Canada when it first came out. I'm really looking forward to reading the reviews now that I see the book starting to pop up on US blogs. Yeah, somehow I see you reading just a tad more than four :-) Have fun! Can't wait to read your reviews.
You have a great pool of books to choose from there. I like the way you included all the covers! It's bad for my TBR though :)
Good luck and have fun!
What a fantastic pool! I would be tempted to pick up most of those books simply because of the covers. The Vampire Kisses ones are especially gorgeous.
Thanks for signing up this year Becky, I love having you as part of the challenges. I also see where you've commented on the sites of many of the other participants and that makes me smile. Thanks for that too.
I see you have Another Faust on your list, too! I've been reading a lot of good reviews of that one lately.
yes, I'd say you have a few books for RIP !
There're some fabulous ideas for this challenge, Becky :-D
oooh! You've got a great pool of books to choose from. I'm going to see what my library has in stock and get them on my tbr list. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I should've checked out your post before I picked my pool! What awesome covers. That definitely sets the right mood for this challenge. I will have to check out my library's catalogue to see if they have any of these books.
Thanks for dropping in on my blog!
Oooh, I love your pool Becky :) Especially seeing the Vlad books and John Lawson's books. They're all fantastic! Well, I can only vouch for the first Vlad book so far, but I'm sure they're all great ;)
I bought A Monster's Notes and tried and tried, but I could NOT get into it. And I just LOVE Frankenstein. Oh well :/ It was just too philosophical and bizarre for me.
Nicola, I'm excited to read Night Runner.
Heather, isn't that the whole point of blogs...to be bad for others TBRs?
Carl, I know. The covers are amazing. I had such fun playing around with the books and sorting them into piles. So many of those covers say read me, read me even without any descriptions attached.
Amanda, I love reading reviews of this one. I had very low expectations of this one. But review after review keeps saying this one is good, really good. And so I'm excited to get to it and see for myself!
Deslily, thanks for visiting. I have a hard time with self-control don't I??? And that's only half the books I wanted to read.
Ceri and Carrie, thanks for visiting :) A few of these aren't going to be released until September and October. But some of them are available now :)
Olduvai, I know what you mean. As I visit other participants blogs, I keep wanting to add books to my own list.
Chris, I thought of you when I added the Vlad and Lawson. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to these (the Lawson) last R.I.P. I think I even added Witch Ember to the Once Upon A Time challenge and didn't get to it. But sooner or later, I'm going to get to these. I *really* hope it's this time.
Monster's Notes. I've been reading some of the reviews, and they're extremely mixed. A few people seem to have "got it" and enjoyed it. But a lot of people are really not getting it and not thinking it worth the effort. I don't know where I fall yet. Part of me really wants to like it because the premise sounds amazing. But part of me thinks that it's a bit too obscure. I didn't buy it after reading the reviews, but I was happy to see it at the library.
If you do happen to be looking for a Frankenstein related read, I'd definitely recommend the short story Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel.
Look at all of your books! Wow! I can't wait to read the sequel to The Knife of Never Letting Go. Hope to see what you think about it!
You have a lot of great looking books here to choose from, Becky, and present this challenge well. I signed up for the challenge this morning, but will only do Peril the Third due to time constraints. But I'm thrilled to be a part of R.I.P.!
Oh my gosh, what a pool! I don't think I've ever even heard of most of them - how shameful! I'll look forward to your reviews!
Ooh, I just noticed you included Emily the Strange - I officially love you. :-D
I'm so excited about this challenge and your pool of books looks great. I can't wait to read all of your reviews :)
An impressive selection of books to choose from. And the cover art on some of them is gorgeous! Happy reading!
Hey its Imani .I've heard a rumor going around about a fourth boook my heather brewer .On google images I saw a book cover of Vlad with the same shirt as the third book but it was yellow .I just wanted to know if the rumor was true .
