Weekly Geeks 2009-04

This week's question/activity. Brief reminder: What are you passionate about besides reading and blogging? Get us involved.

It's hard to come up with a non-blogging, non-reading hobby. If you're me. I guess I'm not that well-rounded. Sure, I used to have hobbies. But is it fair to highlight something I haven't done in four years? Not really. So what I'm going with is an immersion experience into a certain kind of music...a certain style of music. The kind that makes me feel good and happy...and sometimes hungry :)

Like all obsessions, this one started off small enough. An album picked up here, borrowed there. Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits, volume one. Dean Martin's All-Time Greatest Hits. The soundtrack to What Women Want. And also the soundtrack to Return to Me. (Now that I think about it, Fools Rush In had a lot of *good* music too, but that movie obviously didn't warrant a soundtrack, though if they'd had it, I'd have bought it!!!) But it wasn't enough. I needed more, and more, and more.

Some of my favorites: Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Martin, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, etc. And of course, MICHAEL BUBLE.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dean Martin! My favorite song of his is Immorata. I could listen to him all day.

And Frank Sinatra. What a fantastic talent - no one else even comes close to what he can do to a song.

You have a song on your playlist - That's All by Michael Buble. That's one of my favorite songs - I've heard it by Bobby Darin (another fantastic talent gone too soon) and Steve Lawrence.

Great clips and music. Thanks for the treat!

Not my favorite style of music, but, for you, I listened to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and it wasn't half bad. :-) Thanks for sharing your passion with us!

I adore Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin is also terrific. I love Volaire! And Sinatra's version of Fly Me to the Moon is one of my favorite songs.

Have you listened to Michael Buble? I find he does some fantastic covers of Sinatra. I love his voice, too.

Thanks for an interesting post Becky. I kinda like this "old" music myself, although I rarely listen to it. My father-in-law is a passionate fan of Sinatra and Dean Martin :o)

I love Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Etta Franklin. I really have a thing for the old time swing - the big band music from the 40s.

I love Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong. They both just always seem to be really enjoying the music that they are creating. I also like a lot of the Andrews Sisters. They are great on their own, but they also have some great duos (that's not the right word, but I can't think of what is!) with Bing Crosby (Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive, Don't Fence Me In, A Hot Time in the Town of Berlin, and several others including all the Christmas songs that everyone is familiar with) I'm pretty sure they also paired up with Frank Sinatra at some point, but I can't seem to find any proof of that! Here's a good link that I just found if you want to check them out.

Thanks for bringing to mind all this great music!
